Introducing Oskarintie 2.0

28/06/2007 09:06 | Categories: General, LifeType | 0 Comments

I had been meaning to do a little redesign here for a while now, and I finally had some time over the last couple of days. So without further ado, please meet the new version of this blog: Oskarintie 2.0!

I took a design called Photopress for Wordpress, adapated it for Lifetype and butchered the CSS completely :) The base HTML code is the same but I always am amazed at how much can be done just by changing some bits here and there in a stylesheet. I liked the design because it is perfect for moblogging/photoblogging, as the centre column is sized to allow 6480x480 pictures and there are no annoying side columns at either left or right side that make the page feel too overloaded.

There still are a few things missing but I will be adding them as we go (like checking if pages validate as XHTML 1.0 Transitional) For those interested, I will be making it available as a Lifetype packaged template (without the custom logo and so on)

Renalias.net running with LifeType 1.1

LifeType 1.1 is at a status where it is already quite usable, so I decided to go ahead and test it here in this blog. The results are quite promising. While we have not improved much in the area of CPU performance (same as the 1.0.x series), we have greatly improved in the area of memory usage and now LT 1.1 is happy with between 4.0 and 6.0Mb per request (1.0.x would not even bother running with less than 12mb!)

Other improvements you may notice right away is the little pager at the bottom of this page, which allows users to navigate through all posts in the front page or through the posts in a certain category. The rest of improvements are either under the hood (the new data cache) or in the admin interface (Mark's work on the mass-editing features and AJAX-ifying the interface a bit)

Next in line is lifetype.net in a few days, let's see how it goes there!

Look Ma! My picture is in the PHP Magazine!

Our successful article titled "Building a Weblog with PHP" made it to the international edition of the PHP Magazine, which is of course terrific news for a project like ours :) You have to pay to get the magazine in electronic edition (no more paper version) but if you do, you'll get access to the first part with the second one coming next month.

pLog is dead, long live LifeType!

In case you haven't seen it: pLog now called LifeType.

It was tough, but I would like to thank all of you who made this possible!
