Introducing the link dump

12/10/2007 13:00 | Categories: General, Links, Geeky | 0 Comments

I have recently realized that I'm using my del.icio.us account more and more as a place to dump all sorts of interesting (and not so interesting) links that I come across during the day. But instead of cluttering the front page with little posts titled "links for xxx", I've moved all my del.icio.us stuff to its own section called "LinkDump", accessible via the menu bar right below the header.

The link dump is a collection of all the the recent links posted to del.icio.us by me. The section is entirely dynamic, built on Javascript and using the Delicious JSON API. I placed all the code in a nice Javascript class called myDelicious, that you should be able to deploy in your own blog, should you be interested in this kind of feature. Please let me know if you find the class useful :)

And now since there won't be any more automatic posts every night from del.icio.us, I'll have to try and find something interesting to moblog... :)

No updates, sorry

There hasn't been any updates lately around here because my camera phone was broken. In addition to that I just left my company (I'm starting on Monday in my new job) and I had to return the phone and the SIM card, so I won't be posting anything till Monday at least when I hopefully get a new decent camera phone.

In the meantime, have a look below. Now I can finally justify having a Core 2 Duo machine with 1.5Gb of RAM: so that I can watch football from a Chinese channel with a P2P client running in a virtualized Windows and seen through a transparent shell window. I don't know whether I should be thankful because the MacBook is such a flexible machine or sad because of this massive waste of resources :) Oh, and it's not even my team, they're playing later, but since this is P2P TV the sooner you connect the better :)

First consequences of the Windows source code leak

25/12/2004 20:29 | Categories: Geeky | 0 Comments

The first one, is that there has already been found a security bug in IE 5. It didn't take long to find anything! :)

The second one is that people have had a look at the code and while that would make you unable to work in certain open-source projects, we can still have some fun and have a look at the sometimes funny and sometimes bad-mouthed comments that Microsft developers wrote :) Other interesting things to look at is that the code has a few hacks, and that inside the very same kernel-level code there are plenty of work-arounds for buggy applications (Microsoft and non-Microsoft apps alike) I don't agree with that because it's not a task for the kernel to make buggy applications work well, but I think that this guy may have a point. This other link is also a very nice example of a hack upon a hack upon a hack. And then we wonder why it took MS so long to release anything barely stable...

Who remembers DOS?

DOSSlacking off a little today I found a very nice page called DOS Abandonware. My first computer was running MS-DOS 3.30, so I found very nice because it lists many old software that was released for DOS, divided in categories, and made me remember those good ole' days... :) Who remembers WordPerfect 5.1? And the Norton Commander? How about Stacker and DoubleDisk, when we were trying to make the best of our tiny (by today's standards) 30Mb disks? dBase III+, anyone?
